Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in corporate anymore!

Let me just say that I’ve not been this busy since I built my first KarmenCopy website back in 2017. Back then I would work late into the evenings to get my client work out so that I could sleep for a few hours before logging into my 9 to 5.

This time around, I’ve done everything for myself that I’ve been doing for this latest batch of clients:

  • brand boards

  • freebie designs for download

  • web design

  • email marketing setup

  • brand bio

  • fun faqs

  • content writing

For as busy as I’ve been over the past 2 months rebuilding everything to go at this full-time, I’m surprised that I’m not as tired as I assumed I’d be. I think it has a lot to do with me having strong boundaries this time around that I actually stick to. Some of my favorites are listed here under my FAQs, but I think the one that’s made the biggest difference so far is purposefully reducing my work hours.

I still wake up super early, but I allow myself time to ease into the day. I know the quality of my work and the skills I’ve developed over the years, so I don’t force myself to fill 40 hours of time each week. When my work is done, I move on to something else.

My days aren’t rigid, and I leave space to do other activities between getting my contracted work completed. So far it’s an amazing setup for my ADHD, and great for the clients who celebrate and encourage my creative freedom on their projects.

I’ve had SO MANY movie nights with my husband lately thanks to all this newfound energy, and we’ve had so much fun!

Don’t get me wrong— I’m absolutely still adjusting to the reality of not having a steady, predictable paycheck coming in, but I’m really happy with the tradeoff. I know it’s only a matter of time before I’m outpacing my previous earnings so that can stay way down on my list for now.

have you recently chosen full-time entrepreneurship after a layoff? What’s your experience been like so far?
